The stairs up to our roof-top-deck are definitely one of my favourite features of the house thanks to the awesome team at Stylecraft Stairways. They are beautiful – a stunning sculpture greeting us every time we walk through the front door. They are magnificent at night as well – our electricians at EAV did an amazing job fitting the LED strips into each tread.

How was the lighting done underneath each tread by the electrician? Where are the cables being run from? And do they plug into a 12V DV adapter on the wall somewhere?

Hi Karan. The lights are LED strips recessed into an aluminium channel in the stair treads. The cable runs inside the central stringer to each tread, and is wired into the mains power – i.e. they turn on and off via a normal light switch. Stylecraft, the stair company provided the stairs with a draw wire for the electrician to wire it up, or Stylecraft could have wired the whole thing as well.

Thanks Peter. The treads are 200mm thick by 890mm wide with a 10mm negative detail from the wall, so 900mm. When you say metal parts, do you mean the plates the treads are sitting on or the steel stringer itself?

One mayor dimension for step – height? Looks around 100mm, I’m right? With metal parts I thins stairs central bar (square tube) dimensions.
Thanks Peter, sorry the height of each rise (between each step) is 200mm which is the max possible to the NZ Building code, the depth of the tread is 260mm. So the height of each tread is as you say, around 100mm.
Sorry, I don’t know the steel tube/stringer dimensions off the top of my head (not at home currently) but would be maybe 150mmx100mm when comparing to the tread height. Hope that helps! It all depends on the space and height you’re trying to get to and the building code. So every stair will be different.

Thanks Vicki, we really love them. The finish was all done by our stair manufacturers Stylecraft: https://www.stylecraftstairs.co.nz/ – there was some colour put in it to give them a bit of a whiter finish – I’m not sure what type of product they used though sorry.
